The Top Five ‘Routes’ to Root Chakra Health

We looked at the general awesomeness and power of all the Lower Chakras – including our super-important Root Chakra – in our blog Unlock the Secret Power Hidden within your Lower Chakras. But how do we know what to do to keep all our Chakras (lower and upper!) health and activated?

Well, worry not – we’ve got this!

Today, we’re going to take a look at the first, base, Root Chakra and how we can keep that foundation good and strong, so we can build our complete Chakra health from the ground up.

First though, let’s take a look at what can happen if your Root Chakra is out of whack…

Physical issues:
Lower limbs; lower back; bladder and colon; adrenal glands; fight or flight response.

Mental/emotional:
Addiction; over attachment to food, people, relationships; money issues; anxiety about personal safety; inability to feel ‘grounded’; paranoia.

So, what can we do to support our Root Chakra..?

#1 Use Colour

The Root Chakra resonates with the colour red – the red clay of mother earth. And simply surrounding yourself with red can support your Root Chakra, when it feels in need of some love. Wearing red clothes – especially underwear; surrounding yourself with red soft furnishings – throws, blankets and cushions; and taking a ‘red bath’ – bear with me!! Using red coloured oils, bubble baths and other bathing accoutrements will all be wonderfully beneficial. You can make your own coloured bath salts using food colouring – just be careful and test it on your skin/hair first!

#2 Say it Loud, Say it Proud!

I am a great lover of affirmations and use them every day as part of my Chakra Balancing practice.

The Root Chakra loves strong validation – think ‘power poses’ and strong ‘I am…’ statements. Some of my favourites are “I am Safe”, “I am Here”, “I am Supported”. Pick one and say it out loud every day. Use affirmations sparingly – I think I had about seven on the go once – and they were loooooooooong!! Saying them became such a chore, I avoided doing it! So, pick one – two at a push – and really work it!

#3 Get outside!

This is really a general one for all your Chakras. The sun is a natural energy purifier, and although it is more closely associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra, sunlight stimulates the flow of energy from the ground up. Amp up the Root Chakra healing power of being outside with a barefoot, mindful walk – really feel the ground beneath your feet and be grateful for the support from the earth.

#4 Eat the rainbow

Well – the red bit anyway!!! OK, OK – I know we should eat the rainbow all the time but eating and drinking red food/drink stuff will support a flagging Root Chakra. All the red foods – raspberries, cranberries, strawberries, red cherries, red grapes, pomegranates, red apples, red plums, rhubarb, pink grapefruit, watermelon, guava, tomatoes, red peppers, radishes, radicchio and red onions – yep, there’s a lot of them!! You can even grab a glass or two of red wine if you fancy it!

#5 Good vibrations

Each Chakra, despite being a non-physical entity resonates with a certain frequency, and when we listen to sounds which match that frequency, we can soothe that Chakra – amazing, right?! The Root Chakra relates to our primal and survival instincts, so anything with a deep drum beat, that fills your body and the earth with vibration is incredibly supportive.

If you want to get really geeky, the Root Chakra resonates at 432hertz, so listening to sounds at that frequency, will activate and open this Chakra. Just Google meditations at this frequency and you’ll find lots to listen to! The seed mantra for the Root Chakra is ‘LAM’, so this is also a soothing sound.

 

So, there you have it…

My top five tips for Root Chakra Health. Now, I know you’re not going to get around to all of them straight away – not even I manage it – well, not all the time!
